12th MEETING

The Torremolinos International Day on Saturday was a big success with a scorching sun keeping people moving around all the stalls tasting foods from different countries.

I had two Margueritas from the Mexican stand and felt no pain. Irish dancing Lord of the Dance style, had everybody clapping. The fan dance full of colour and graceful pattern, was done by the charming Chinese girls.

Sunday the Gran Prix in Barcelona was heaving with spectators but unluckily Alonso had to retire with engine failure, after a brilliant qualifying which put him second on the grid.

Serendipity Creative Centre in Alora is hosting 6 one-day workshops in May from 10-5.0pm teaching people how to produce hand made paper. More details on request.

Next Meeting 2nd May

April 11th MEETING

TORREMOLINOS BIKE RIDE !!
Yours Truly found herself enjoying a super day out with friends on Sunday, cycling around Torremolinos for an organised rally. Apart from getting the chain stuck and coming a cropper. .Tim was the knight in shining armour ( woolly gloves actually) who came to her rescue.
There were lots of youngsters on skates and we were given special blue baseball caps to wear. The prize plaques were given out and raffles drawn. Sylvia had the skater award and Y received a very striking glass and copper award for
La Ciclista con Mayor Edad! We were followed by cameras for it to be shown on local TV!
Thanks to Anna for the loan of the bike

April 9th Meeting

There are many splendid trees around us .
Avenida Conde De Mieres where I took this photograph has colour like this for most of the year as the Jacaranda trees flower in turn and shower the cars parked beneath with sticky blossoms.
Around the corner is this tree which also spreads it's enormous yellow flowers everywhere.Known as "Angel's Trumpet" and referred to here in Spain as "Datura"
Brugmansia
We are now five regulars plus floating visitors and are happy to welcome a long time resident as a new member from out of town. A fluent Spanish speaking citizen with knowledge of the coast, and local customs. She too has expressed an interest in a visit to the gardens of La Concepcion. This may be the time for a visit now that Easter crowds have thinned out.
Going past the gardens on my way up to the campo for a friend's birthday visit, I saw several groups strolling there in the wonderful weather. No-one to see though on my way down, rain has set in for a few days. This being the driest spring here since 1912, we cannot complain!
Next meeting Friday as usual
